MyBabyPool vs BabyHunch: Which Baby Pool Is Better?

You want a baby pool, you search for one, and two names keep coming up: BabyHunch and MyBabyPool. Both let friends and family guess the birth date, weight and sex of your baby online, and both score every guess automatically once the baby arrives. So which one should you pick?

We make MyBabyPool, so we are not neutral. What we can do is be precise. Everything about BabyHunch below comes from its own website, checked on 9 October 2026. Where BabyHunch is the better choice, we say so.

The short answer

  • Pick BabyHunch if you want a pool that is completely free, your guests all speak English, and a first-letter guess for the name is enough.
  • Pick MyBabyPool if family and friends live in different countries or speak different languages, you want people to guess the full name, you want to decide yourself what each question is worth, you like having an app, or you want a keepsake booklet of every guess after the birth.

Both are good. The difference is in the details, so here they are.

Price: BabyHunch wins on free

BabyHunch is free from start to finish. Its site says it plainly: no paid tiers, nothing behind a paywall.

MyBabyPool is free to start, and anyone can join your pool, with no cap on how many people guess. On the free version the first five guesses are visible to everyone. Plus is a one-time upgrade of $14.99 (£9.99 in the UK, €12.95 in Europe) that shows every guess, emails everyone the results after the birth and turns the whole pool into a keepsake PDF booklet. No subscription, and it is for that one pool. Grandparents can also give it as a gift.

If paying anything is a dealbreaker, BabyHunch is the honest answer. If the keepsake and the results email matter to you, the one-time Plus is what you are paying for.

What people can guess

Both cover the classics: birth date, birth time, sex, weight, length, hair color and eye color. The difference is the name.

  • BabyHunch lets guests guess the first letter of the baby's name.
  • MyBabyPool lets guests guess the full name. It is the hardest guess, so by default it is worth the most points: 20 for the exact full name, half for the first name alone.

If you are keeping the name a secret until the birth, a full name guess is a lot more fun. If you have already shared the name, it does not matter, and you can simply switch the category off on either site.

On MyBabyPool guests can also put a sticker on their guess that says how sure they are, from "Nailed it" to "Grandma knows". After the birth, a sticker on a top-three guess gets an "and it paid off!" next to it.

Everyone can also react to each other's guesses with a heart or a laugh, and the pool shows what the group thinks on average: the majority sex, the middle date and the average weight.

Scoring

Both sites score every guess automatically, so nobody has to do sums with a calculator in the hospital waiting room.

BabyHunch scores out of 100. The date is worth 25 points (minus one per day off), sex 25, time 15, weight and length 10 each, and hair, eyes and first letter 5 each. Switched-off categories become free points, so the total stays at 100.

MyBabyPool scores out of 65 by default, with sliding scales on everything you can measure: the closer you are, the more you score. The name is worth the most (20), then sex and weight (10 each), and date, time, length, hair and eyes 5 each. Weight counts for more than the date on purpose: a due date narrows the birthday to a two-week window for everybody, while weight is a genuinely open question. Our baby pool rules explain the reasoning.

The bigger difference is that on MyBabyPool you can change those numbers. Parents give every question 5 to 30 points, so if eye color is the great family debate, make it count for more than the name. Guests see what each question is worth while they guess, and a guess that is nearly right still earns its share of whatever you chose.

Neither system is "right". BabyHunch rewards the date and the sex; MyBabyPool rewards the harder guesses, or whatever you decide counts most.

Family abroad: languages and apps

This is where the two differ most.

BabyHunch is in English. That is perfect if everyone in your pool reads English.

MyBabyPool was built by a Dutch family with relatives spread around the world, which is why it runs in eight languages. Grandma in Portugal sees the pool in Portuguese, your cousin in Germany sees it in German, and everyone guesses on the same link. The pool also handles grams or pounds and centimeters or inches.

MyBabyPool also has iOS and Android apps for parents who want notifications when a new guess comes in. Guests never need the app: they just open the link.

Keepsakes and extras

BabyHunch has some lovely extras: a photo of the bump on the pool page, support for twins and triplets, email alerts for new guesses and a printable calendar of every guess as a memento.

On MyBabyPool, the keepsake is the booklet. With Plus, after the birth, the whole pool (every guess, every personal note, the winners) becomes a PDF booklet you can print or keep with the baby photos. Everyone who guessed also gets the results by email, so the people who are far away hear who won without anyone having to send forty messages.

So which one should you choose?

Ask yourself three questions:

  1. Does everyone speak English? If not, MyBabyPool.
  2. Is the name a secret? If yes, MyBabyPool's full name guess makes it the best category of the pool.
  3. Is free a must? If yes, BabyHunch is fully free, and that is a perfectly good reason to choose it.
