Is MyBabyPool Safe and Legit? Who Is Behind It, Privacy and Payments
Is MyBabyPool legit and safe to use? Who runs it, what data it keeps, how payments work and what your guests share when they guess. Straight answers.
Free, and your guests don't need an account.
You are about to send a link to your mother-in-law, your colleagues and your oldest friends, and ask them to type in their name and email. It is completely reasonable to want to know who is on the other end first. Here are the straight answers.
Who is behind MyBabyPool?
MyBabyPool is made by Arend and Yass, a couple in the Netherlands. It started when they were expecting their first baby: Yass has family spread all over the world, and they wanted everyone to share the waiting, not just hear the news afterwards. So they built a simple page where everyone could guess the date, the weight and boy or girl. You can read the whole story on our about page.
The business side is equally simple to check:
- MyBabyPool is a product of ByteBlend, registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (KvK) under number 42096599.
- It has been used by 92,500+ families, who together placed more than 1.2 million guesses.
- It runs in eight languages and has apps in the App Store and on Google Play.
- Questions go to a real person at [email protected].
Is it a gambling site?
No. MyBabyPool is a guessing game, not a betting site. Nobody pays to guess, there is no stake, and MyBabyPool never holds or pays out money. The winner gets bragging rights (and whatever prize your family agrees on among yourselves). That is also why it is suitable for an office baby pool.
What data does MyBabyPool collect?
From you, the parent who creates the pool: your name, email address, the parents' names, the expected due date and, if you want, a personal message. This is used to run your account and your pool.
From your guests: their name, email address and their guesses. The email address makes sure each person guesses once, and on a Plus pool it is how they get the results after the birth. Guests do not create an account.
Guests can also choose to hide their name from the other guests, so only you see who guessed what.
What happens with that data, according to our privacy policy:
- It is never shared with third parties for commercial purposes. No selling of email lists, no marketing partners.
- Personal data is stored encrypted, with measures against unauthorised access.
- You have the right to see, correct or delete your data, and to withdraw consent at any time. One email to [email protected] is enough.
Because MyBabyPool is a Dutch company, it falls under the European privacy law (GDPR), one of the strictest in the world, wherever you or your guests live.
Cookies and tracking
Functional cookies keep you logged in, remember your language and save your guess. Analytics (Google Analytics and Microsoft Clarity, to see how the site is used) only run after you agree in the cookie banner where that consent is required, and you can change your choice at any time via "Cookie preferences" in the footer.
How do payments work?
Most pools never involve a payment at all: creating a pool and guessing are free. The only thing you can buy is Plus, an optional one-time upgrade per pool (we explain it in is MyBabyPool free?).
- On the website, payments are handled by Stripe, the payment company behind millions of online shops. You pay on Stripe's secure checkout page, so your card details go to Stripe, not to us.
- In the iOS and Android apps, you pay through the App Store or Google Play, the same way as for any other app purchase.
- It is a single payment. There is no subscription and nothing renews.
Is my pool private?
Your pool lives on its own link with a random code in it, so people only find it if you share it with them. Anyone who has the link can open the pool and guess, which is exactly what makes it easy for grandparents. So share it where you would share a baby shower invitation: the family group chat, an email to friends, a card at the shower.
Some quick checks you can do yourself
Being careful online is smart, so don't just take our word for it:
- Look up the company. ByteBlend, KvK 42096599, is in the Dutch Chamber of Commerce register.
- Look at the payment page. When you upgrade on the website, the address bar shows checkout.stripe.com.
- Read the privacy policy. It is short and in plain language: mybabypool.com/privacy.
- Ask us something. Mail [email protected] and see who answers.
The bottom line
MyBabyPool is a real, registered Dutch family business that has hosted baby pools for tens of thousands of families. Your guests share only a name, an email and their guesses, nobody gambles, and payments, when there are any, go through Stripe or the app stores.
